Teachers in learning institutions will have to renew their papers after every five years, according to new government guidelines.

Not just that, they will be required to apply for certificates of good conduct and present them to their employer TSC.

The Teachers Service Commission gave teachers good news by announcing that they would no longer be demoted like in the past.

''Come January next year(2018) every teacher will be required to renew a certificate from the commission which will be renewed after every five years.'' Lydia Nzomo, TSC chairperson said.

The announcement was made in Mombasa during the annual Kenya Primary Schools Headteachers Association conference where around 10,000 headteachers are attending.

The new measures are designed to guarantee professionalism in the teaching profession that has been dogged by incidences that have cast the profession in a bad light.
