Kenya Bureau of Statistics (KEBS) Managing Director Charles Ongwae has dismissed claims that contraband sugar that has been seized contains traces of mercury and other poisonous elements.
On Wednesday, DCI George Kinoti insisted that the impounded sugar contained mercury and other elements which makes it dangerous for human consumption.
"I am ready to meet Adaa Mohammed in court. We did our analysis and there is no doubt about that," he said.
Industrialisation CS Mohammed had differed with earlier observation by his Interior counterpart Fred Matiang'i.
And while appearing in National Assembly Trade committee, Ongwae said samples taken from the controversial sugar indicates that its fit for consumption.
"We have done analysis on the said sugar and we are unable to find any traces of mercury as it is being reported," he said.
The statement by the researchers could as well put the matter into rest which had already started causing political jitters.
