The privately-owned dam broke its banks Wednesday night, sweeping away an entire village.

Speaking on Sauti Ya Mwananchi Radio on Friday, the ex-area lawmaker blamed the owner of the Patel Farm for the unfortunate event that has since cost close to 50 lives.

He said the owner, Mansukul Patel, is not new to controversies, claiming that he has been naughty since back then when Wamwere represented the area in parliament.

According to the veteran politician, Patel is also known for mistreating both his workers and the villagers surrounding his vast horticultural ranch.

''He has always been a problematic individual. He would have his private ranch securities arrest and whip anyone caught crossing the land which  cuts between Solai and Subukia as it was the only route, with the remaining ones being hilly and impassable,'' Koigi said.

Koigi further said the dam's durability has always been in question, narrating their earlier confrontation when he attempted to have the farm management stop the construction of the dam.

''This was set to happen as the dam has always looked suspicious and all my efforts to have it either relocated or reconstructed were futile as he always dared me to do my worst,'' he added.
