The vetting team from the National Police Service was on Wednesday shocked by the utter revelations by junior police officers regarding the orders issued to them by their superiors.
The revelations which came out from the highly valued MPESA transactions wired to the senior officers revealed that senior traffic police were in the habit of demanding money from them. This, in turn, compelled the lowly ranked officers to demand bribes from the roads to avail to their bosses.
According to news published by Kenyan local dailies, Julius Okere, who is a police officer said they usually sent money to their regional bosses and also those at the police headquarters in Nairobi.
“I can never categorically confirm why we were required to remit particular amounts to our seniors but once we were told that our seniors wanted a given amount of money, we just follow the orders and send the said value,’’ Okere said.
The officer further revealed that they could even send money from their own accounts to fulfil the orders.
However, the Kavuludi led team has warned other officers scheduled to face the vetting panel against making any alterations on their MPESA statements.
