Mt Kenya region has once again been urged to support Deputy President William Ruto in his 2022 presidential bid.
Mount Kenya Youth Caucus, through its chairman Linford Mutembei, asked local leaders to shelve their ambitions and back Ruto.
"We must keep our promise to support the DP in 2022. Our region's political interests will be served best by endorsing him when President Uhuru Kenyatta retires," he said on Thursday.
Speaking during a youth meeting in Meru, Mutembei said the Jubilee agenda is broad and would only be realised if Ruto succeeds his boss.
"Ruto's leadership skills will also come in handy in the next five years as the country ponders amending the Constitution to create a more broad-based government," the youth leader added.
Ruto's bid has been endorsed by a good number of politicians from Mt Kenya despite a number of leaders from the region showing interest in the top seat.
Tharaka-Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki and former Meru Governor Peter Munya are some of politicians holding presidential ambitions.
"We are very thankful people and we will support you in 2022," Nyeri Senator Ephraim Maina told Ruto during the burial of Governor Wahome Gakuru recently.
Kiambu County leaders led by Governor Ferdinand Waititu and Senator Kimani Wamatangi have also vowed to support the DP.
"We want to tell you that all our votes belong to you in 2022. Be assured you are Kenya's fifth president," Waititu told Ruto last Sunday during a church service at Mukeu, Kiambu County.
