About 200 youths from Naivasha have cancer disease. According to Naivasha sub county health medical officer Dr. Oren Ombiro, the number of cancer patients in Naivasha have increased from 4% from the year 2012 to 9%. "Most of the patients that we screened have breast cancer. Cancer patterns are changing and we can now see patients as young as 25 year testing positive", Ombiro said.
Ombiro was speaking during an event which was held in Naivasha yesterday to mark the annual Naivasha Palliative care team cancer awareness day at the Naivasha sub county referral hospital. Ombiro added that there has been a 3 month cancer screening drive in all the wards in Naivasha. "Men have been diagnosed with prostate cancer and we are now requesting all the men in Naivasha to come and volunteer for screening", Ombira said.
During the event, Nakuru Governor Kinuthia mbugua's wife, lucia said that there were plans to have a celebral palsy patients put in separate wards. "The County government will work with the management of the hospitals to make sure that celebral palsy patients are given that special care that they deserve", lucia said.
