After the release of the 2016 KCSE results, most of the 226,000 candidates who garnered below 200 marks may fail to join secondary schools next year.
About 6,747 of the candidates had less than 100 marks, which is less than 20 per cent overage in every subject.
This is a sad development considering that the number just doubled from last year’s 3,061 who scored less than 100 marks.
According to the Ministry of Education, the pass mark for gaining a form one slot is 250 marks.
This means that those who scored below this mark will have to repeat class-eight or join local training institutions like youth polytechnics.
