More than 300 buildings risk demolition in Thika, Juja and Ruiru sub- counties after National Construction Authority (NCA) launched a campaign to ensure developers meet required regulations.
Speaking in Thika town on Monday evening, Thika region NCA officer Isaiah Achini, said many of this buildings lack necessary approvals and contractors are not registered.
"Every building must be constructed by a contractor who is registered by NCA and all regulations be met," said Achini.
One of the regulations requires a property owner to put up a signboard at the construction site, showing all professionals undertaking the entire work.
They include the main contractor, the structural engineer and the architect who has designed the building.
“These are the professionals we follow when a building collapses or develops problems,” added Achini.
The number of the plot where the construction is taking place must also be indicated on the signboard as well as clearance from the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA).
Achini also added that construction workers must have protective gears like helmets and gumboots.
But some of the property owners said they were unaware of some of the regulations.
"NCA and county government should sensitise all the stakeholders on these regulations," said a property owner.
