More traffic polic officers will be deployed along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway to deal with errant motorists this festive season, National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) chairman Lee Kinyanjui has said.

Speaking to reporters at Naivasha town over the weekend, Kinyanjui said that tough action will be taken against flouters of traffic rules.

He said that road accidents are common during the festive season and that deployment of traffic officers will help curb the menace.

“We have decided to deploy more police along the Nairobi-Nakuru high and among other major highways in the country to curb accidents,” he said.

Kinyanjui added that other measures including use of speed cameras to monitor motorists will be installed at specific points.

He observed that the existence of speed cameras along the highway has instilled discipline among the motorists.

Kinyanjui said that road carnages can be curbed if motorists exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations.

He asked motorists to support the initiatives being taken by the government to address road accidents.

The chairman said that the government is committed to address road accidents stating that road accidents have declined since the introduction of speed governors especially on Public Service Vehicles (PSVs).

Nakuru highway is among the roads ranked as deadliest worldwide in terms of many fatal road accidents.
