Billionaire businessman Jimmy Wanjigi (photo/nation.co.ke)The Director of public prosecution(DPP) Keriako Tobiko is now seeking High Court to reconsider the Sh50,000 anticipatory bail terms granted to businessman Jimmy Wanjigi in October.
The DPP complained that the amount granted to Wanjigi is way below the seriousness of the offense being investigated against him.
Consequently, Tobiko sought the court to direct Wanjigi never to leave the country without getting permission from the police and or the court until the investigations are completed.
The DPP further asked the Court to compel the billionaire businessman to deposit more documents in court as surety that he will be within the court jurisdiction until the investigations are done.
However, Julie Soweto ,Wanjigi's lawyer opposed the application terming it as insincere since the police have never questioned Wanjigi or carried on with the alleged investigations from the time they raided his house and destroyed property.
Arguing before, High Court Chacha Mwita,Soweto said the police are only mischievous and claim that they are investigating Wanjigi in relation to possession of legal firearms is untrue. The counsel further added that the "The application is only meant to curtail Wanjigi’s freedom of movement and subject him to oppression,"argued Soweto. The ruling on the application will be made on 31st January 2017.
