A family source who declined to be named, said that the former Nyaribabi Chache MP and long time Finance Minister was still struggling to regrain.

The source further says that Nyachae, who finished third in 2002 presidential elections, is still confined in the ICU due to chest pains.

"There is no significant improvement at all. He is still critical but we hope things would change. Doctors are working around the clock to restore his health.

"What the family needs is prayers. He has been a pillar in the family and his absence is not anything better. We hope for the best," he said.

Last week, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, who is also his nephew, was one of senior government officials who visited him in the UK.

While Nyachae's family remains dormant in politics, his son, Charles Nyachae, lost in Kisii senatorial seat to Sam Ongeri of ODM in 2017.
