Kiambu anti-drugs crusader and Psychologist Gladys Chania has differed with Women Representative Gathoni Wa Muchomba’s call on men to marry many wives.
Chania argues that Wa Muchomba’s advice is misplaced and not relevant.
According to Chania, polygamy is not the solution to the issues facing Kiambu people.
In an interview with a local daily on Tuesday, Chania asked Wa Muchomba to stop debating irrelevant issues and work for the people.
She said that Kiambu men and Kenyans at large needs financial and economic empowerment and not advice on how many wives they should marry.
“Elected leaders must stop indulging in issues that are not important to the people and settle down to deliver services to the people that elected them to office,” she said.
Chania said that economic empowerment is what is needed to solve many issues facing the society.
She added that many wives will not tackle the issues of drug abuse, alcoholism or poverty.
Wamuchomba is advocating for polygamy in Kiambu and other parts of the country.
She says that men should be allowed to marry several wives so long as they are able to cater for them.
A section of leaders including the clergy have opposed the Kiambu Woman Rep’s polygamy push.
