This follows the breakdown of coolers where bodies are preserved at the facility.

A section of residents say that the services at the morgue are very poor seeing that the bodies of their deceased relatives are kept badly despite the cost of preserving the bodies there going up.

"The services are so bad that when you come for a body, it is halfway decomposed. The bodies are scattered all over the floor," said Nancy Wacuka who had come to pick a relative's body on Tuesday.

John Kamau, another mourner, said that even dressing the bodies is a problem because of the bad smell.

"When you come for the body, you just find it the way you left it. The attendants do not even clean it," he said.

Some attendants at the morgue have also admitted that there is a problem.

"There is only one machine for preserving the bodies that is operational. If the rest are repaired, things will be back to normal and this smell will be no more," said George Kiarie.

The attendant also noted that the number of bodies being brought at the morgue has more than doubled overstretching the facility.
