Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has rubbished claims in some sections of the media that he has abandoned his push for Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.
Speaking in Kikuyu Town on Friday, the vocal lawmaker said that he fully supports DP Ruto’s presidential bid. The MP termed claims that he had abandoned the DP in favour of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as false.Kuria said his ‘handshake’ with Raila two months ago did not mean that he had abandoned Ruto, adding that he is in the DP’s camp to stay and will push for his presidency in 2022.“As Mt Kenya, we are not looking back in our push to have DP Ruto succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022,” he said. The lawmaker also said that they will not accept to be intimidated by critics who oppose their quest to make Ruto president in 2022.“They are even calling us DP Ruto’s touts, let them know that we will not fall to their intimidation,” said Kuria.DP Ruto is banking on the support of the Mt Kenya region to clinch the presidency in 2022.However, political pundits argue that it is not a guarantee that the region will support him.According to Peter Ngure, a Kiambu-based political analyst, things could change for DP Ruto before 2022 especially in regards to the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
