In a Facebook post on Thursday, the outspoken MP questioned why the government had only deported one NASA politician and called on the State to take tough measures on opposition leaders.

Kuria cited Turkey’s 2017 coup attempt, where the coup leader was banished into exile.

“After the April 2017 coup attempt in Turkey, the government of Tayipp Erdogan jailed 47, 155 and banished the coup leader Fethullah into exile. Someone in Kenya is sleeping on the job. Only one deportation so far?” read Kuria’s post.

This comes after self-declared NRM General Miguna Miguna was deported to Canada.

Prior to his deportation, Miguna had been detained for five days before he was arraigned in a Kajiado court where he was charged with aiding NASA leader Raila Odinga to commit treason.

Defending the government’s move to deport Miguna, Ministry of Interior spokesman Mwenda Njoka said Miguna renounced his Kenyan citizenship years back, claims that Miguna has since denied.

This comes amid the government’s crackdown on NASA leaders who aided and planned Raila’s swearing-in on January 30.

Several NASA politicians have had their security and firearms withdrawn, as the government cracks the whip on those who were involved in Raila’s oath ceremony.

141 NASA MPs have sued the government for revoking their gun licences and withdrawing their security detail, arguing that the move is discriminatory and unlawful.
