Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has called for the disbandment of the National Youth Service (NYS) following the Sh9 billion scandal that recently hit the department.
The outspoken Jubilee legislator through his official Facebook account proposed that the billions allocated to the NYS should be diverted to Technical Training Institutes (TTIs) in the 290 constituencies in Kenya.
"My idea- divert the Sh16 billion from NYS and complete TTIs in all 290 constituencies then make each TTI and NYS in every constituency," he said.
"We have 60 constituencies with Technical Training Institutes. Another 70 in progress and 85 starting in Financial Year 2018-2019 leaving only 75 constituencies without TTI's by June 2019," he added.
The MP further proposed that NYS should be disbanded and converted into a national engineering company to undertake public projects.
"As for installed capacity in NYS get a Public Private Partnership Partner (PPP) to convert it into a national engineering company to undertake public projects," Kuria said.
National Youth Service (NYS) Director General Richard Ndubai who stepped aside last week to pave way for investigations was on Sunday Night arrested alongside 20 other suspects and taken to the Muthaiga Police Station.
The suspects are expected to be interrogated at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters along Kiambu Road.
