Moses Kuria (Gatundu South) expressed disappointment over Thursday’s incident in which Raila’s convoy was pelted with stones in Githurai and Thika in Kiambu when he toured the county.
“From now on I will personally attend all Raila Odinga's functions in Central to deal personally with any hecklers,” Kuria said on Thursday shortly after youth disrupted Raila’s campaign meetings.
“This is not the way we were brought up and socialized,” he added.
During the two incidents youth who the opposition claimed had been hired by Kiambu politicians threw stones at Raila, Musalia Mudavadi, Johnston Muthama and other NASA leaders’ convoy as it snaked through Githurai and Thika towns.
Raila, however, downplayed the melee.
“Peace protests and the occasional heckling is part of freedom of speech and is protected by the Constitution,” he said.
“As a seasoned politician, I have had my fair share of heckling. However it's another matter when people come to rallies armed to cause violence. I am asking both our supporters and Jubilee's to be calm at opposing rallies.”
“Make your opinion be known if you must. It is part of a democratic process of engaging competing opinions. Organised violence has no place in this process,” he added.
He said every Kenyan, by law, is free to visit any part of the country.
