In a Facebook post on Monday, Kuria lauded the Head of State for ordering all procurement officers to step aside to pave way for a fresh vetting exercise. He further noted that to win the battle against corruption in the country, we must establish where the rains started beating us."I fully support the fight against corruption. I further fully support the suspension of procurement officers. One, because to win the battle against corruption we must establish where the rains started beating us. But most important because for the period they remain suspended, we will also put on hold public procurement, hence an automatic minimum 12 months freeze on spending. So we have no reason for increased domestic or foreign borrowing as public expenditure will grind to a halt. As David Mwiraria achieved in 2003 after firing public procurement officers, we might have a budget surplus and a downward spiral of T-Bills rates to between 4% and 5%. Then, this economy will explode," posted Kuria. In a statement on Monday, the government spokesperson through Mwenda Njoka revealed that public officers have been directed to step aside with immediate effect for fresh vetting.“Whereas the exercise is geared towards determining suitability to continue holding public office in the public trust and promote confidence in the public service, the same will be undertaken in a fair and objective manner, exercised with due care and regard to officers’ rights as enshrined in the constitution,” read the statement in part.President Kenyatta during the Madaraka day celebrations ordered for fresh vetting of all procurement officers, in a move aimed at taming runaway corruption in the country.
