Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has asked the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) to further reduce his monthly income by 15%. Addressing the head of SRC, Sarah Serem, the MP appeared to criticise newly elected members of parliament, such as Kiambu women representative Gathoni Wa Muchomba, who have opposed the new salaries of MPs. “Dear Sarah Serem. By this post I authorise you to effect the new salary level for myself. I would even suggest you look for legal mechanism for cutting my salary by a further 15%,” Kuria wrote on his Facebook page. The MP said that had SRC not revoked the sitting allowances of lawmakers, he would be demanding allowances to squat and sleep. He invited Ms Serem to work with him in reducing the public wage bill and a number of political seats. “We must work together towards a target if no more than 35% of our budget going to recurrent expenditure and 65% going towards capital expenditure that will spur development, long term growth and prosperity.”
