Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria on Sunday delivered on his Ksh 300,000 gift to Thika United after the team managed to remain in the Kenya Premier League 2018 season.
Thika beat Ushuru 2-1 in aggregate in the playoffs to retain their KPL status and the vocal lawmaker came in handy with his basket of goodies for the Nicholas Muyoti charges.
"Finally we have made it.Thika United has retained its place in the Kenya Premier League after surviving a fluent attacking football from Ushuru FC to draw 0-0 at Narok Stadium thanks to the 2-1 victory at Thika Stadium earlier this week.The Nick Muyoti boys were delighted as I kept my promise to reward them with Ksh 300,000 if they survive in the league," Kuria posted on his Facebook page.
He added that plans to rename the team to Mt Kenya United will go on in order to expand its fan base and enable it compete with other established clubs like Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards.
Thika had a disappointing 2017 league campaign that saw them finish third last in the 18-tier league.They however managed to survive direct relegation but had to fight for their place in the playoffs against the taxmen who were third in their National Super League campaign.
