Cardinal Otunga High School, in Mosocho, Kisii County, Principal Zachary Nyariki, has called for patience among students and parents to allow for investigations into the cause of the fire that gutted students' property and three dormitories for two days consecutively.
Nyariki urged parents to be tolerant and not panic after the school administration in consultation with the Ministry of Education officials closed the school indefinitely, pending investigations into the cause of the fire.
Speaking today in the school, Nyariki recounted how the tragedy struck the school after students had resumed for their second term session, sending the school and surrounding community into a state of panic.
"The first dormitory, identified as Morimbocho, caught fire on Tuesday evening as we were addressing the students at the assembly after they opened for the second term session,” said the principal.
He added: “We managed to put out the fire and a few hours later another dormitory named after Bishop Mairura also caught fire. The last dormitory named after Rev Father Nyakundi also caught fire on Wednesday noon and we managed to put out the fire.”
Nyariki said that the fire tragedy was a second one after the school lost a dormitory and students' property worthy thousands of shillings last year in March and it had since been renovated for use.
