A mother aged 27 years has been detained by Nyahururu law enforcement after reportedly poisoning her two children.
According to reports, the accused, Grace Wambui, allegedly gave the two boys tactic pesticide.
On Monday, the youngest of the two was taken to the hospital but died while receiving treatment.
She was arraigned in a court in Nyahururu and charged with attempted murder.
According to Nyandarua North police boss Timon Odingo they are still investigating the mother’s motive
"Following the demise of one of the children, we are contemplating charging the woman with murder," Odingo said as reported by The Star.
Their grandmother, Jane Nduta, had been looking after the children after their mother reportedly sent them to live with her three months ago.
Nduta says she had left the house to look for maize which she planned to cook for the children and that was when the mother poisoned them.
Another family member claimed that Wambui locked herself in the house with the children.
"Moments later, I heard them sneezing. The children were found frothing in the mouths."
Law enforcement responded to the incident and took the two boys to Aljabet hospital who were in critical condition.
