The first born son of former cabinet minister Kipkalya Kones has lost in the Bomet East MP seat race to his mother.

Beatrice Kones beat Kipng’etich Kalya Kones, after garnering 22,796 votes, against her son’s 2,410.

Kipngetich was fronted for the seat by Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto, who has also lost to National Assembly deputy speaker Joyce Laboso.

Many said the race pitting mother and son was “not blessed”.

Mrs Kones was vying on a Jubilee Party ticket, while Kipngetich was a Chama Cha Mashinani candidate.

The Bomet East MP seat has for many years revoled around the Kones and Isaac Kipkorir Salat families.

Mrs Kones ascended to power after the death of her husband in a plane crash in Narok on June 10 2008.

Mr Kones died alongside Lorna Laboso, the sister to Joyce Laboso.
