Shock engulfed a village in Kisii after the mother of a university student collapsed when the son showed up at home with dreadlocks.
The mother who is a staunch Christian could not bear the sight of her son in dreadlocks and collapse.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital forcing the son to shave his hair.
Locals say the mother, who is a widow had struggled hard to raise up the son in a Christian way but ended up donning dreadlocks which they said made him look like a gangster.
“Some of these boys when they get to the university forget where they come from. Like this one who looks like a gangster. How would someone keep such a hair? He almost killed his mother,” said Grace Nyamasai the aunt.
The son is a student at Nairobi University.
The community associated dreadlocks with all sort of evil in the society.
"Such hair belong to rough people and gangs. We as a society do not entertain such behaviors. What is the big deal about shaving your hair and looking decent," said Christopher Onkware an elder.
