A mother began a search to find the body of her missing son following the August 8 election [Photo/The Star]On Sunday morning, Carol Atieno, went to the City Mortuary in search of the body of her first born son, Privel Ochieng.Atieno said her son had gone to buy chapati when chaos erupted after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission announced Jubilee leader Uhuru Kenyatta would be president.

“Immediately after Uhuru was declared the winner of the presidential race, commotion ensued. People were screaming and banging things in protest and we all got out. Ochieng’ had not yet returned from the shop,” she said.

Moments later she overheard gunshots and when she went to check out the scene she found her neighbors running away; they told her Ochieng’ had been shot.“I ran to the scene screaming and wishing the neighbours were wrong. My only hope, the light of my family, could not have been shot. He had just turned 18 and did not even vote,” she said.One of the neighbors who witnessed the incident said that Ochieng begged the police not to kill him.“I heard a gunshot and a scream. The first guy who was trying to run away fell. Then Ochieng’ went on pleading, ‘Afande please niweke pingu unipeleke ndani, usiniuwe’ . Then I heard two gunshots,” said the neighbor.

According to Achieng she is yet to find her son.
