Joyce Cherotich, 23, claimed that she handed the baby to the stranger, a woman she had just met, as she excused herself to use the washroom.

The woman, whom she met in the hospital shortly after her delivery sympathized with the still bleeding Joyce, and offered to take  her home to Chepterit.

Upon getting to an area near Sossion River, Joyce decided to use some public toilets nearby, only to come back and find both the woman and her baby missing.

“I urge whoever can find my child to please alert me, I do not know why the woman could do such a cruel act to a mother,” pleaded Cherotich.

Cherotich’s bag, carrying the child’s clothes, was later abandoned at a nearby shopping center, with a shopkeeper saying two women carrying a baby had dropped by to buy some sodas.

Cases of child theft and kidnappings have raised alarm in Eldoret town, and residents are pleading with the government to bring the culprits to book.
