A sombre mood engulfed a family in Turi area of Molo following the death of their son who was stabbed over food wrangles in a circumcision ceremony.

The deceased, 17, was among candidates sitting the ongoing KCSE examinations.

Reports said he was among 11 young men who wanted an additional share of food after they were given tea and chapati during the ceremony. 

According to the deceased’s cousin, Kevin Kimani, they had gone to join in celebrations after their friend underwent initiation when the incident occurred.

“After we had finished the tea and chapatti that we had been given, some of the boys began to cause chaos demanding more food. Drama ensued,” said Kimani.

Kimani said the home's father flushed them out before one of those in charge on the iniates stabbed the deceased. 

The mother of the deceased Susan Mukami emotionally narrated how her son met the death and that the deceased had never at any given time been involved in drug abuse.

“My son has never been involved in drug abuse and his death is a great blow to the family,” she said.

Confirming the incident, Deputy County Commissioner David Wanyonyi termed the incident shocking one.

The suspect is already in police custody and will be arraigned in court once police are through with their investigations, a source said.

The deceased’s desk at Chandera secondary school remained empty as other candidates continued with their KCSE exams.
