Heavy rain disrupted the Mashujaa day celebrations in Ruiru Sub-County during the mid morning fete graced by the Deputy County Commissioner Mercy Gatobu.
The rain started when the DCC was delivering the President’s speech and the leaders were forced to converge on the only tent that was meant to shelter the Guest of Honor.
The public, having no otherwise, fled for their shelter in the neighboring Kiosks and respective homesteads outside the stadium leaving the DCC to deliver the speech to ‘herself’.
Earlier on the speech had been disrupted for almost half an hour by a mad man who was causing mayhem and havoc after being denied a drink.
The man was contained by the Assistant DCC (DO1) Mwachidudu Chimera arap Kirui with the help of the area residents.
A section of members public however criticized the County Government of Kiambu for not setting up enough funds for the preparation of the event which had just a single tent.
They urged the DCC to make sure the public are well taken care of during the future events to avoid such a misfortune.
They added that leaders just look at their own needs and ignore the public citing the few refreshments which were meant for the leaders only.
The incident forced the Biashara ward MCA Joe Mutuga to convene an immediate meeting with the residents after the celebrations where he assured them that there will be no repeat of such incident.
