It is alleged that the ordeal occurred as a result of poorly connected electricity wires which got into contact with the dump conditions leading to the electrocution.

Speaking from his home, the head of the bereaved family Ndungu Baiya recounted the tragedy, saying that his son had tried to rescue the mother only for both to end up dead.

"My wife was washing utensils when she got the electricity shock and screamed for help. Dominic (their son, 40) ran to help her but both of them got electrocuted and when Joseph (neighbour) came to help, he was electrocuted too. But he (Joseph) was rescued after he was hit with dry wood," said Mr Baiya.

Area chief Antony Njoroge called on residents to stop illegally connecting power, adding that many people had done their own connections where they dug trenches from Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) poles to their houses and connected them poorly.

Gituamba ward MCA Sammy Ng’ang’a echoed the chief's words urging KPLC and area Member of Parliament  to encourage the Stima Rahisi project in the area to avoid such cases.
