A mother and her son narrowly escaped death on Monday night after a fire broke out at their home in Munju, Molo.

The two were asleep when the 10pm fire started.

A neighbor, Joseph Githinji, said he was asleep when he heard screams from the home and rushed there.

"I ran out to help but the fire spread too fast until we could not save anything from the house," said Githinji.

He added that the victims sustained burn injuries and were taken to a private hospital for treatment.

The cause of fire is yet to be established.
