Kisumu County Women Representative, Rose Nyamunga, has threatened to take a motion to parliament seeking to ‘rob’ Members of County Assembly (MCAs) powers to impeach governors.

Currently, the constitution gives MCAs power to pass a motion of no confidence against their respective governors which if successful, results in the governors being impeached.

Speaking in Kisumu on Thursday, Nyamunga said that the powers need to be bestowed on the electorate since it is they who elect the governors.

Nyamunga noted that some MCAs are affecting governors’ service delivery since they are threatening them with impeachment motions.

“You will find that some governors are reluctant to make decisions which do not favour MCAs fearing impeachment,” said Nyamunga.

She noted that MCAs may halt development in counties especially if they are not in good terms with the governor.

“MCAs have been threatening governors with impeachment motions when the governors refuse to dance their tune. This has made governors to be spending most of their time trying to satisfy the greedy MCAs,” said Naymunga.

This comes after the High Court upheld the decision of the Senate and Embu County Assembly to impeach him Governor Martin Wambora.

Judges Richard Mwongo, Weldon Korir and George Odunga while issuing their ruling said due process was followed by the County Assembly in removing him from office and thus none of Wambora’s rights were infringed.

Other counties affected by the motions include Kiambu and Makueni whose government is in the final stages of dissolution if the committee addressing the matter approve the issues raised.
