Motorcycle operators blocked major roads in Athi River as they were protesting against arrest of colleagues by the police.

After blocking the major road that connects Mombasa road to Namanga road through Athi River town, the operators rode in a solidarity protest to the District commissioner's compound in Athi River near Kenya Meat Commission.

The Mzee Paunrannah road was rendered impassable by cars after the motorists throng the road hooting loudly and driving at neck-breaking speeds.

One of the operators explained that the police had arrested their colleagues and they were standing in solidarity with them.

They said they were tired of what they termed as police harassment.

They expressed their anger and accussed the county government of Machakos for not coming to their rescue.

They also went ahead to block the busy Mombasa road.

The protest, which lasted for several hours, disrupted normal businesses with some traders closing their shops.
