A pupil is nursing injuries at Thika Level Five hospital after a motorcycle ran over her on Monday morning along Thika-Makongeni road.
Confirming the incident, Thika traffic commander Francis Muthamia said the 12-year-old was hurrying to Kenyatta primary school for the opening of third term when a rider came speeding past her.
According to a witness, who requested anonymity, the motorist is one of the most feared in the area due to his riding speed.
The motorist reportedly ran over the girl and sped away, leaving Good Samaritans to take the schoolgirl to hospital.
“It has become a habit that they speed and cause accidents then run away,” the witness observed.
“This road has become so dangerous for pedestrians to pass through as no one cares about them,” he added.
The police boss vowed to launch a crackdown to arrest those flouting traffic rules.
"I will make sure this ends immediately despite the poor state of the road,” the base commander said.
The victim is currently recuperating at the Thika Level Five hospital.
