The chairman of the riders, Nelson Ondire, said criminals are moving into houses and stealing the bikes.

Ondire said many youth have been victims and in some cases members of the public have come to the rescue of the riders.

“There is a group of a gang targeting motorcycles, they break into houses where they know the motorcycles are,” he said.

He said that most of the criminals are now using concocted drugs on the riders.

“The most dangerous trend is that this group also uses drugs to drag our cyclists and in the process take off with the motorcycles,” he said.

Speaking to the press in Kisumu, Ondire warned riders to be wary of the customers they are carrying as some turn out to be the criminals.

He said they have a plan to have job cards bearing the card number and name of the riders to help passengers to know the riders.

“Some of our riders are also criminals and we are working on some measures to address that issue before it goes out of hand,” he said.

Ondire said the county government of Kisumu also has some other plans that will help fight crime in the city.
