Confirming the incident, area traffic boss Benedict Mwangangi said that police had stopped a Mercedes Benz lorry KBP 525Z which was travelling from Garissa to Nairobi at the road block near the Castle Junction. As they were talking to the lorry driver, Francis Maina Ndemi, a motorist driving a Honda CRV KBY 812Q crashed into the lorry from behind.

Mwangangi who gave the name of the injured motorist as Peter Matheru Waweru said that the driver was on very high speed and was unable to control his vehicle which crashed into the lorry injuring him seriously.

The man was rushed to Thika level 5 Hospital but was later transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialised treatment.

The mangled wreckage was towed to the Thika police station.

Mwangangi cautioned drivers against speeding saying that police will continue the crackdown against fast drivers as cases of motorists plying the Thika Super-highway causing accidents due to over speeding was very worrying.

He pointed out that police register an accident or two daily on the highways in the area as a result of over speeding.
