A Bodaboda operator is fighting for his life after he got involved in a road accident with a 14-Sitter matatu at Sophia Trading Centre.

The accident that occurred on Tuesday afternoon after the Bodaboda operator entered the main road without giving way for the oncoming vehicles unfortunately got hit by a passenger vehicle (Nissan) along the Thika-Garissa Highway leaving him with severe injuries.

Confirming the incident, Yatta area Police Boss Edward Kipsang Chagat stated that the motorist was speeding and never consulted before getting into the main road.

“The Bodaboda operator never observed traffic rules, he instead joined the main road without confirming whether the road was clear for him to proceed or not. Unfortunately he was hit by a vehicle which was oncoming,” said Chagat.

Police officers from Matuu Police Station arrived at the scene few minutes after the accident and rushed the Bodaboda operator to Matuu Level Four Hospital where he received treatment before being transferred to Machakos Level Five Hospital for further treatment.

The Bodaboda wreckage was towed to Matuu Police Station as the driver of the matatu is expected to record a report at the same Police Station.

The Police Boss has asked motorists to observe Traffic rules and avoid speeding which usually results into unnecessary road accidents therefore risking their own lives.
