Sammy Maina, a motorists who frequently travels along the Nairobi Nakuru highway had complained to NTSA about a bus belonging to the Matunda bus cooperation, now renamed Nairobi bus, flouting traffic rules but the authorities ignored his complaint.
Three months later, one of their buses was involved in a grisly road accident along the Salgaa stretch killing 38 people during the weekend'
Mr Maina sent a video to NTSA showing the bus flouting traffic rules to back up his claims but instead, he was given standard response “give us your name and email address, we shall get back to you,” which they never did.
“I am a regular road user and I have a camera on my dash board. I was heading to Naivasha at around 8 am in September when the bus overtook me on the wrong side of the road at around Soko Mjinga area before Kinungi,” Mr Maina recounted.
He said that the bus continued doing mistakes and nearly hit a Toyota vitz near Kinungi on that day.
“The driver made several blunders and nearly caused an accident. He was driving carelessly and nearly hit an oncoming Toyota Vitz. He repeated the same mistake at Kinungi,” he said speaking to a local daily.
He reported the incident to NTSA and the authority gave him a blind eye with the usual standard response.
He recounts that on September 26, he posted the message on NTSA's Facebook wall but no action was taken.
Mr Maina said that he was saddened to learn that a bus from the same company had taken away 38 lives in one instance. This has seen NTSA ban night travel.
