The motorists on Tuesday said they always incur losses because whenever the police officers put up roadblocks along the road, they pay bribes ranging from Sh2,000 - Sh5,000 daily.

"Traffic police officers have been frustrating our business operations due to the huge bribes they demand at road blocks. At times we are forced to drop passengers at undesignated areas since we don't have the money they demand," said Mogendi Ong'ayo, a driver.

Ong'ayo said the officers threaten to forge charges on them whenever they refuse paying the bribes.

"The officers always threaten us with fake charges whenever we turn down their demand for bribes. It is that serious," he said.

Mr Eric Mokandu asked the Kisii County Commissioner Godfrey Kigochi to intervene and stop the officers from taking bribes.

"Kigochi should come to our rescue by removing the lazy and corrupt officers from roadblocks because we are not operating illegally. No driver or conductor has not met the required road rules, the vehicles are well maintained with insurance," said Mokandu.
