Gatundu North traffic commissioner Amos Mwau has sent a warning to road users flouting traffic rules by taking law into their own hands when one of the operators is involved in an accident.
Speaking during a traffic departmental meeting on Monday at Kamwangi Hall, Mwau said bodaboda operators were the most notorious saying the law must be followed with police exercising their mandates properly.
Mwau said cases of the operators harassing vehicle owners in the area disrespecting traffic regulations thereby causing deaths and injuries will not be tolerated. He vowed to immediately get rid of such urging motorists to follow road rules.
He revealed that his department in conjunction with National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and rapid response unit will hold consultative meetings to sensitise the motorists on traffic regulations.
The traffic police boss said that the traffic department will also guarantee that assembling of data is done on personal profiles of all motorists in the sub county, their exact areas of operation and recording of the vehicles and motorcycles in an effort to avert crime.
He restricted bodaboda hours of operation from the whole night to 10:30pm adding that long hour’s operations had contributed to fatigue causing accidents.
Mwau beseeched the operators to be cautious of being used by politicians to cause turbulence as the conventions and campaigns for the 2017 general elections near.
