Motorists plying Keroka-Mosobeti road have accused Metamaywa-Kebirigo road contractors for allegedly initiating a bridge construction without providing an easily accessible alternative route.
Speaking to this writer on Tuesday, the motorists said that they have been forced to use a longer route from Gesima Market to Mosobeti following the commencement of bridge construction by the H-Young company near Nyakongo High School.
According to them, the company had ignored expanding the road to pave way for construction and instead compelled them to use an alternative longer route that is impassible during this rainy period.
“The company (H-Young) is executing its mandate with a lot of impunity. It is very unfair that we are forced to use a longer route ever since they commenced construction of a bridge near Nyakongo High,” said Dan Okangi, motorist.
“They should have constructed an alternative road along the highway instead of condemning us to an impassable road through Omoyo-Nyaronge all the way to Mosobeti Market,” added Elvis Nyamora.
They threatened to hold peaceful demonstrations if the company failed to yield to their demands by Friday this week.
“We have given the contractors two days to solve this menace or else we demonstrate to be heard by the government if that’s what they want. We are also Kenyans and our rights must be respected no matter what,” added Nyamora.
Efforts to reach the managers of the construction company were futile since top managers were said to have gone to Eldoret where the company had another road construction tender.
