Three motorists have been arraigned in a Kiambu court to answer to charges of operating with expired licenses.
Appearing before Principal Magistrate Diana Mochache on Wednesday, Thomas Mwai, Richard Kimani and Daniel Njogu all pleaded guilty to the charges.
The prosecution desk told the court that on July 7, 2015 the three were arrested by traffic police during a crack down at Thindigwa along Kiambu Road.
The three were stopped by police and on checking their documents, they were all found to be in possession of expired licenses and were later taken to Kiambu police station.
In their mitigation, Mwai said his license had expired a month ago but he didn't have money to renew it since the little he gains goes to his family adding he was planning to do so in two weeks time.
Kimani on his side said he was the bread winner in his family and any judgement should be fair to him as he had admitted that he was on the wrong and asked for forgiveness.
The third accused, Njogu opted to remain silent and wait for the judgement.
Principal Magistrate Mochache sentenced the first and second accused to sentenced to six months in prison or be released on a fine of Sh20,000.
However, the third accused, Njogu was sentenced to eight months or pay a fine of Sh50,000.
