Motorists and the Matatu operators plying the Banana-Limuru Road have decried the poor state of the road. The road, which they described as beyond impassable, is filled with potholes a condition which has been aggravated by the ongoing rains that have been pounding in most parts of the country.
“This road has been almost left out as others have been slated to be renovated and others have already been repaired. The potholes on the road have even been the cause of some accidents along this stretch,” revealed John Macharia, a Matatu driver plying on that route.
Motorists and residents have now called upon Kiambu County government to speed up the plans to repair then road since it has continue to inconvenience operations especially for the routine road users and the Matatu operators.
“We request the governor to prioritize the plans for road repairs since transport sector has created job opportunities for most youths in the Matatu industry.
However we are incurring losses from increased fuel consumption and repairs arising from poor state of the roads in some parts of Kiambu County,” reiterated Amos Muturi, a Matatu conductor.
Most Kiambu county residents have continued to call for more funds and speedy construction of roads in most parts of the county which are in dilapidated state.
However, in an earlier event during the opening of Githunguri-Ikinu road, Kiambu County transport CeC Njeri Gatabaki confirmed that the county government has set aside enough money for the construction of roads across the county.
