Uasin Gishu County chief executive committee member for Roads Gideon Birir has warned motorists against speeding at the zebra crossings.
Birir said they were endangering the lives of pedestrians adding that they will be arrested and prosecuted.
Speaking in his office on Thursday, Birir said motorists should slow down whenever they reach the zebra crossings as per the traffic rules but most ignore it.
"It is sad that despite the fact that motorists undergo training at driving schools, most of them ignore the rules. We recently painted the zebra crossing points in the central business district and are saddened that there are some motorists who ignore the sign and drive at high speed and yet pedestrians have a right to cross. I am warning to such individuals that they will be arrested and prosecuted," he said.
He reiterated that his ministry has deployed traffic police at every zebra crossing point in the CBD to ensure that traffic rules are adhered to.
"We have deployed at least one traffic officer at every zebra crossing to ensure motorists respect the regulations and pave way for the public to cross roads too. Any motorist found driving recklessly will be arrested. I also urge wananchi to ensure that they only cross roads at zebra crossing points to avoid accidents," he added.
He said pedestrians found crossing the road where there is no zebra crossing will be arrested, he said.
