Motorists operating on roads within Athi River have been told to remove unworthy vehicles from the roads before they are arrested.
The call was made by the area traffic commandant Derick Njangi, who said the order was intended to zero-rate road accidents caused by the vehicles among other related incidences.
Addressing journalists in his office, the commandant said that the region had lots of un-road worthy vehicles, most of which had been reported to had resulted to various road accidents in the region.
“There are several reports received by the police that most of the road accidents on roads within Athi River district and its environs involve un-road worthy vehicles,” said Njagi.
Njagi said that the police had launched a crack down on such vehicles and warned that owners who defy it would be arrested.
He said the crack down was of the public good, arguing that majority of the residents in the transport industry had for along time taken advantage of police laxity by doing business with vehicles not meant to be on road.
The officer also warned motorists and drivers of both private and public service vehicles who flaunt traffic laws that they would not be spared in the crack down.
