The complaint comes days after the motorists were banned from using some parts of the Kisii road to access the town centre which has made the Kisii County government to get questioned by the motorists.

‘‘This has brought us to an ultimate confusing end,’’ claimed one matatu operator.

He said that the matatu sector raises a lot of revenue for the county government but nothing seems to be happening in terms of decongestion of the road or even road repair for that matter. He added that there was a time when backstreets were made operational for some time and that really helped. However, it did not last for long and they were back to the old routine.

As per now, there is only one backstreet road which is working and it is from Gudka to the main Kisii Kilgoris road so this still leads to heavy traffic which swallows up petrol, not to mention the fatigue one gets from spending hours in jam.

Motorists have now urged the county government to find a way to handle the situation but they maintain that opening of backstreets would be a great start.
