The base commander said some accidents which have been experienced on the busy Nakuru-Eldoret highway can be avoided if all road users remain focused and slow down, especially from the marked black spots from Kibunja, Sachagwan and Salgaa.

He said that during the festive season, some road users are over-excited and also drive under influence of alcohol adding that those who will be found will be prosecuted.

He said PSV operators also carry excess passengers, cautioning travellers that they risk prosecution for abating the habit of breaking traffic and safety rules.

“Kibunja, Sachang’wan and Salgaa have been marked as black spots by the traffic department since the spots have claimed many lives. I am therefore urging motorist to drive on a relative speed,” he said.

Masinde said long distance trailer drivers cause accidents mostly due to speeding and dangerous freewheeling from Kibunja to Salgaa.

The traffic commander asked transport companies to employ at least two qualified drivers to support each other on the long distance to reduce chances of causing accident due to fatigue.
