Motorists in Nairobi and all over the country have been called upon to be keen while using their customer cards to fuel their motors.
It has been noted that some petrol attendants are using some other machines to skim customer card details for reasons best known to them. This comes after a station attendant was arrested trying to skim the customer card to get details. The owner said he saw the attendant running his card under the real swiping machine. When he asked the attendant what he had been doing, the attendant ran away. He ran after him and the attendant tossed the card skimmer. The customer then reported the attendant to the police.
The man was reported to the Nairobi police commander Japheth Koome. He confirmed that the incident took place at Shell Ridgeways.
Kibera motorists learnt of the incident from a Facebook post of one of their members and decided to hold a discussion over it. They then concluded that no attendant should be trusted.
Lukas Maelo said if this happened, then there might be a possibility that such cases always happen. He called on other people to be keen while using their cards to pay for goods and services.
