Speaking from his Thika office on Tuesday following an incident where two girls were knocked by a speeding motorist near Cravers Hotel along the highway on Monday when going to school, Thika sub-county traffic base commander William Ohuru asked motorists to respect other road users including pedestrians.

"It is unfortunate that despite our numerous calls on motorists using the highway to exercise caution, many still don't want to comply. We are once again reiterating our call on the motorists using the highway to exercise caution more so now that we have school going kids using the road in the morning and in the evening," said Ohuru.

Ohuru noted that the place where the two girls were hit is a black spot along with the junctions joining General Kago road and Makongeni-Kiganjo road at the BAT where he said many have lost lives or become crippled.

A flyover is already being constructed at the BAT junction. The two pupils from Garissa Road and Kianjau Primary Schools were admitted to Thika Level Five Hospital where they are said to be on a stable condition.
