The motorists argue that the presence or even lack of police officers along some roads in the town contribute to the heavy traffic jams being witnessed within town especially on working days.

Speaking to this writer at Nakuru town on Sunday, the motorists said that the presence of traffic marshals will help in controlling traffic and avoiding unnecessary jams.

David Mugendi, a businessman in town said that the county needs to have its own traffic marshals saying that the traffic police are the main cause of traffic jams in town.

“Anytime we have police officers ion the roads the traffic jam gets from bad to worse and that is why we feel that the county government needs to have its own people who will manage and control traffic within town because Nakuru is a very small town and we don’t see the reason why we should be complaining of jams every day,” he said.

Agnes Njoki a resident of White house estate said that having marshals who can control traffic without interfering with motorists would be the best solution to the traffic menace in Nakuru.

“The traffic police normally come to the road with their own agenda which is far from controlling traffic but if the county can get its own marshals then I think this problem will be sorted out and the government will be in one way creating jobs for its own people,” said Njoki.

Following the rapid increase in population within Nakuru town, mobility within the town has been affected with heavy traffic jams being witnessed along its streets on working days.
