Motorists in Kisii have been warned against ignoring speed limit restrictions near learning institutions with a possible fine of up to Sh100,000 having been set.

Speaking in his office on Saturday, Kisii OCPD Solomon Kiragu accused motorists of breaching traffic rules deliberately hence putting the lives of pedestrians at risk.

Kiragu said the habit was affecting school-going children following complaints by at least ten institutions from the region persuading the police to take action against those who were exposing the lives of leaners at risk.

“I have received several complaints from institutions about reckless driving along restricted areas. The motorists must remember to observe traffic signs that are in certain areas. This is about using common sense and whoever fails to do so, will definitely be dealt with by the police,” he said.

TheOCPD promised a regular crackdown on the offenders besides lauding the county government for constructing speed bumps along major roads in the region that have previously registered many accidents.

“As the police, we are ready to execute a crackdown and arrest the perpetrators. The rule of law ought to be respected and hence the traffic rules for the safety of pedestrians. I wish to thank the county government for also putting bumps in Kisii-Kilgoris road and Kisii- Nyamira,” he added.
